Why? What for? What’s the point?

As an artist, I really like conceptual work.
If art can be more than just a picture on the wall, then it lives more intensely, day after day. With the idea for Swiss Kiss Bank, I can realize such a concept. It serves not just one meaningful purpose, but three.

The first is money. Something that probably concerns us all on a daily basis – at least we have something to do with it every day. Some have too little of it – others are swimming in it.
Then there is the actual structure of the financial world and value creation. Everything that goes on in the world of finance is based on trust. The world is built on trust. And yet you get the feeling that you can’t really trust anyone.

However, we humans have so much trust that we are compensated for the work we have done in the form of paper or plastic or the entry in our account – a digital unit – and trust that the baker around the corner will accept this paper, the plastic card or the digital value that has been credited to our account.
That’s epic, isn’t it?

Only with credit transactions is it understood that money is not paid out from savers’ deposits, but is created anew – out of nothing. Unbelievable, isn’t it?
It is precisely this whole financial aspect that the project serves. We create kisses out of nothing and borrow them from the Swiss Kiss Bank. And that brings us to the second point: peace.

What do I mean in concrete terms? Well, if one person meets another and holds a kissnote in front of their nose and asks to exchange it for the number of kisses printed on it, then this action is much more peaceful and friendly than any other random encounter.
A simple graphic file suddenly makes sense and can create a positive atmosphere between people – or at least a positive surprise.

Before we run the risk of wiping ourselves out, let’s not miss out on the nice guests. Love can do infinite good. A bomb cannot.

The third point is why this project makes so much sense: The fight against hunger in the world.

Every payment to the Swiss Kiss Bank when a kissnote is lent is described as a one-off interest payment for the loan, in order to do justice to the project. A large part of each interest payment goes to aid organizations that work to alleviate misery around the world. To organizations that ensure that fewer children die of hunger. That’s all you need to say.

All in all, it is a small contribution to bringing more tolerance, empathy and perhaps a little humor into everyday life. A kissnote like this can certainly provide variety in everyday life. Not only do you learn about the function of means of exchange and how they are created, but you also do something for world peace – more relaxation between people.

And finally, the project supports real help in the fight against poverty and hunger in the world.

Isn’t that enough?

In my work as an artist, I have the freedom to tackle big things on a small scale without being labeled naive – even if I don’t care.

I know that not everyone wants to publicly proclaim their convictions. Art can help here.

I am also fully aware that many people are charitable and do a lot for their fellow human beings without explicitly discussing this.

That is honorable and admirable.

With the project I am stepping out of the shadows of my social commitments, because there is nothing to be ashamed of or to hide about. Quite the opposite: it should be a public call to do more for love, to do more for your fellow human beings and to use your own privileged position not against but for peaceful coexistence. This is my motivation as an artist, person and man.
